Cancer claims BCA Hall of Famer Mika Immonen at 52.

INTENSE, EMOTIONAL, fearless, stubborn — Mika Immonen encompassed all of those traits. And all helped drive the English-born, Finland-raise, and New York-settled star to the peak of pool’s mountain, where he carved out a career as one of the greatest and most entertaining players the sport has known.

Immonen, a two-time World Champion, two-time U.S. Open 9-Ball Champion and Billiards Digest Player of the Decade for the 2000s, passed away Sept. 28, in New York City, after a 20-month battle with colon cancer. He was 52.
