The first Philippines Open followed a tried and true formula for splashy events in Manila, utilizing the massive Gateway Mall and charging admission only for the arena on the final day to showcase the sport to pool-crazed Filipino fans and curiosity seekers. The supportive fans and the echoing noise throughout the cavernous space made the Open one of the most entertaining events of the year.
